Congratulations to the Housebuilder Brain Game and Marie Curie.
It was fantastic to see so many familiar faces at the 2019 Housebuilder Brain Game, which is an event that supports the amazing Marie Curie charity.
I’m thrilled to announce a record breaking £360,000 raised, which takes the accumulative net total raised at the Housebuilder Brain Games since 2006 to over £2 million.
It was overwhelming to witness everyone’s generosity and support to the evening, Marie Curie believe everyone living with a terminal illness should be able to get the most from the time they have left, however hard that may sometimes feel.
They simply couldn’t have raised what they did without the support of those that donate to a great cause. If you would still like to make a pledge to pay for a Marie Curie Nurse, you can do so by visiting www.housebuilderbraingame.com, alternatively please call the team on 0207 599 7219.
As ever, the quiz was fiercely competitive with Team Anderson claiming the victory with an overall score of 37. Well done!!
We look forward the HBBG 2020 and hope that they smash the new record achieved from the night.

London Marathon 2019
Congratulations to all Marathon runners, supporters and the lucky charities that many have helped raise money for.
Rob Farquhar: My story
For some reason I got it into my head that I should run a marathon before I was fifty, with this rapidly approaching I was lucky enough to get a space in the London marathon, the week before my birthday.
I have since questioned my reasoning during the training!
I got the space by supporting a great little charity called The Change Foundation, the reach these guys have is astounding considering their size. The work they do couldn't be more important, with the rise of knife crime and young people stabbing each other, the Change Foundation offer an alternative to the gangs for these children by changing perspectives through sport and dance and helping troubled and deprived kids into work placements and training, rehabilitation for ex-offenders through rugby sessions delivered in prisons, they also help children with learning disabilities and mental health problems and list goes on.
I am the only person running in the marathon for this charity, so if you could spare a small donation, it would go a long way.
The Change Foundation
The Change Foundation is an award-winning charity that uses sport and dance to create transformational change in young people. The Change Foundation have been delivering and designing sport for development initiatives for 37 years where they have worked in 36 countries and across 12 UK cities – including every London borough.
The Change Foundation programmes support in changing perceptions and aspiration of young people through the support of their coach mentors with lived experience. Participation within the programmes develops trust, teamwork, self-reliance and a can-do attitude. Lasting relationships are established; confidence is boosted; thinking and behaviour are changed; whole lives can pivot. The programmes are delivered in a safe environment, where change is hard-won and delivered through intensive, long term one-to-one mentoring to develop young people’s self-discipline and self-belief which is achieved through personal success in continuing their journey in achieving their aspirations.

This week Pantera held it’s January MBR (Monthly Business Review). At Pantera we have held supervisor meetings for several years, in 2018 we changed the format to the Monthly Business review and extended the audience to all office and site management, it is a must attend event for anyone at SSSTS level or above. The objective of these meetings is to keep everyone up to date with the operations of the business and most importantly the safe working procedures we adopt across all our projects.
This month we held our 2018 Supervisor of the year awards. Each of our sites are reviewed monthly by our SHEQ and Compliance Manager Jonathan Callow, areas of scoring are PPE, working practices, housekeeping and Health and Safety documentation. Winners this year were Jim Anderson, Andrew Siddle and Simon Annett.
We also reviewed our 2018 Near miss and Positive Actions, as a group we had 808 reports. Positive actions are a great way to reduce risk whether it is an intervention associated with our own package or another trades work, we will identify what we see as a risk and put it right there and then to minimise the potential of harm to anyone on site. We discussed accidents within the month and the findings of our health and safety team along with the recommended actions to put in place to reduce the chance of it happening again.
Robert Farquhar our Health & Safety director presented a toolbox talk on dust, the effect that poor dust prevent and protection can have on health and the measures to put in place to reduce these risks.
Our monthly quiz was on Fire door’s, the answers are reviewed and any employee that doesn’t score above our pass mark will be asked to attend a session to improve there knowledge. We also present case studies so we can look at what has worked well and what didn’t go so well on a project and everyone is asked to participate on how we can improve on the didn’t work well areas.
By holding these meetings regularly we make sure best practice is communicate and enforced across all our schemes and assess ways to continually improve.

Remembrance is part of modern British life, culture and heritage. It becomes a particular feature of the public calendar each year when public, private, formal and informal Remembrance events take place throughout the UK. Pantera Wardrobes are committed to recycling what we can, when we can, across London on prestigious projects. Last month we initiated a recycling programme with one of our valued clients who allowed us to segregate our waste metal material on site, and collect it at the end of the month. Once collected we transferred the waste metal to a local scrap merchant where we delivered it to be recycled. We were very happy with the amount of £69 pounds that would ordinarily be sent to our chosen charity Marie Carie Cancer Care, whom Pantera Group have worked with for several years, so far we have raised £29,248.19 for our charity in 2018 alone. On this occasion we have decided to match the amount of £69 and donate the proceeds of £140.00 to the Poppy Appeal to aid the support they give.

The lucky team members that were picked at random for the challenge had a selection of items to eat, first being a handful Meal-worms through to the final meal being a very large tarantula that was eaten by our very own Nina Cadogan (Pantera Wardrobes).
